This organization does not exist for itself; rather, it will come alongside churches and ministries in a number of different ways. The goal is to nurture a vibrant ecosystem grounded in the faith that seeks a flourishing city. RADIUS will focus its efforts in the following ways:
Advocacy and awareness
RADIUS will raise awareness within the church of the importance of effective missional engagement of the city and the issues and trends related to urban mission. In every church there are many Christians who wish to do more to engage the needs of people in their city, but do not know the first steps to take. Representatives from RADIUS Initiatives are available to speak, consult, and provide resources to help the church know how to engage their city in a fruitful manner.
Training and equipping
RADIUS will provide training and equipping for Christian leaders at all levels to see the birth, growth, and vitality of gospel-centered urban churches and ministries. Training at all levels means informal training all the way through formal degree-offering training through MBTS (Malaysia Baptist Theological Seminary). Different topics for training include: “Understanding the city for the sake of engagement,” “Serving the urban poor sustainably,” “Starting new urban congregations,” “Civic engagement for the welfare of the city for people of faith.” Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to learn more.
RADIUS will be a research and innovation hub for urban church leaders and urban mission practitioners that will provide space for research, reflection, and the vibrant exchange of ideas. In this way, RADIUS will serve to be a networking point for churches and ministries in the city. Rapid changes to our cities in terms of flows of people, confluence of cultures, and changes to society require ongoing research. In order for the church to be good urban neighbours, we need to know and understand our neighbourhoods. RADIUS Initiatives is committed to quality research for our city.
RADIUS will engage in seeking the welfare of the city (Jer. 29:7) through the application of new ideas for the sake of experiential learning, ongoing innovation grounded in real-life praxis, and mentoring urban Christian leaders who will actively engage the grit of the city. Many approaches to poverty alleviation and other ministries were designed for rural settings. Cities are far more complex and require new ideas and experimentation to find solutions that truly lead to improved lives.
