With cities increasing in size and influence all over the world, people are scrambling to find solutions that address the many issues in these teeming metropolises. The church has tended to respond in one of two ways: 1) many have ignored the rise of cities and done little; 2) others have sought to do random works of kindness to address the woes of our burgeoning urban regions. Many Christian books on urban missions have been simple introductions. Many Christians want to do the right thing as they engage cities, but end up frustrated or feeling their efforts are being wasted. There is a need for more in-depth literature addressing urbanization and the church's response.
In Sowing Seeds of Change: Cultivating Transformation in the City, I have sought to address this need with the goal of helping the church tackle the looming needs of the city. It is part of an excellent series called Urban Ministry in the 21st Century (check out the other great titles). My book combines theological reflection, urban studies analysis, and missiological practice guiding urban pastors, ministry leaders, and other Christian leaders in a comprehensive strategy for seeking the shalom of our cities (Jer. 29:7).
